“I think more than anything, we have talked, we have done everything. Now it is time for us to stop all of that for a little bit of action.” - Prudence Nobantu Mabele
Join us on a mission to end HIV stigma, once and for all.
Zero HIV Stigma Day is the grassroots campaign that has millions of people worldwide committed to ending the stigma surrounding HIV.
Join us on 21st July 2026 for the day of action by sharing your stories, initiatives, and advocacy in response to the global HIV epidemic, because we cannot change alone or in siloes. Everyone
We cannot take for granted how far we have come in improving the quality of life for people living with HIV or ending onward HIV transmissions. Together, we will create a future where no one is shamed, silenced, or excluded for living with HIV.
Why 21st July?
21st July was chosen as Zero HIV Stigma Day to honour Prudence Mabele (21st July 1971 - 10th July 2017), who was one of the first Black South African women to publicly share her HIV status at a time when HIV stigma was at its highest. 21 July honours Prudence and the countless other HIV activists that have been fundamental in improving life outcomes for people living with HIV and those affected by it.
This day is for the HIV activists that have gone before, but also for every activist that continues the fight against HIV.

Children’s Book: Activists in Action
We co-authored this book about the life and achievements of Prudence Mabele to educate young minds about HIV activism, the fight against stigma, and the importance of equal access to treatment. By fostering awareness rooted in facts, we can empower the next generation to continue the movement for a stigma-free world.
Short Film: Love Ends Stigma
We invited seven people living with HIV and their loved ones to have an honest, intimate conversation about their relationship while navigating the HIV journey. When people living with HIV are embraced by those closest to them, HIV becomes part of the life journey, not a barrier to living freely, joyfully, and with dignity. Stigma ends where empathy begins.
